Hello everyone, before I begin, I would just like to say thank you to Dave and Connor for welcoming me to the team. My name is John and you can find me on YouTube as well. My username is “AppleInvestigator”. I will be creating occasional posts such as reviews and news about the tech community. Anyways, let’s get on with the review. My video review is also provided.  For the last several months I have had the opportunity to use the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard cover for the full-sized iPad and really enjoy using it. It has a really nice design, it’s very thin and light and also provides a wonderful typing experience  When I purchased my iPad mini in November, I was on the lookout for a good keyboard. Immediately after the launch of Apple’s tablet, Zagg brought the “ZaggKeys mini” line to the market with a 7” and 9” model. Wanting to get it on the immediate fun, I purchased the ZaggKeys mini 7. Let’s just say I wasn’t impressed. When I heard Logitech was coming out with a mini version of the Ultrathin, I knew what to expect and that the product would be amazing. I have tested this keyboard, typed on it and played with it. Does it live up to its expectations though?  Let’s find out!

What you need to know:

  • Available from Logitech
  • Retails for $79.99
  • Comes in Black and White

The design of this keyboard is second to none. I purchased the black version and it is extremely sleek-looking. At only 208 grams and 7.3 mm thick, it really is a nice accessory. The black model features a slate like finish that compliments the iPad mini exceptionally well, while the keyboard is surrounded by a glossy border that really catches your eye. The iPad is attached to the cover by using the magnetic system inside of the iPad and attracts to a clasp on the keyboard. Despite being excellent for allowing a solid connection, I would NOT recommend holding the iPad from the keyboard and expecting it to stay on. The groove that the iPad sits in is perfect, providing a nice angle for a solid viewing and typing experience. On the right side, you will find the bluetooth pairing switch, as well as the on and off toggle switch and usb input. Oh, and did I mention the iPad automatically sleeps and wakes when closing the cover, I absolutely love that feature!

Battery Life:

One of the major advantages to all keyboards made Logitech is their awesome battery life. This keyboard will last for 3 months on one charge with use for about 2 hours per day. That is very good, even if you use it for more than that on a daily basis, this could last you a long while before plugging in.

I have to say I am a big fan of the typing on this keyboard. The keys are made of some very high quality plastic and the craftsmanship is beautiful. The spacing  between the keys is just right for me, and I had no issues while typing. My hands didn’t feel cramped and I was able to produce a document with no problems. The shortcuts on here are also very nice, such as the home button key, lock key, media playback controls as well as search and volume adjustment.

The bottom line:

If you are looking for a solid keyboard that has a sweet look and a sleek design, this keyboard is definitely for you. It compliments your iPad mini with perfection, even maintaining that slate finish. The typing experience is awesome, with good shortcuts, while the magnetic system provides a good attachment and the auto locking system is much appreciated. With excellent battery life and a great look, Logitech really hit it up with this product.
