CloudMagic is now Newton!
And it’s a big change.
When they launched CloudMagic Email 3 years ago, our mission was to modernize the user experience for work email. They wanted to build a reliable service into which you plug in your email account, which then gets supercharged with powerful features. They believed in the power of email as an open communication protocol and that it could be made better and more relevant, not just for today but also for the future.
Step 1 — CloudMagic
The first step of that mission was to create an email app that’s blazing fast and works reliably with push notifications for every email provider, on mobile and desktop. All that with a simple, beautiful and pleasant user experience. And then build the power features on top of it in Step 2.
Thus CloudMagic was born.
They started off on iOS and Android backed by a service on the cloud that syncs with the email providers, and bring them all to parity in terms of capabilities. The mobile apps were meant to be the interface that connects you to the service. Since then, we have been working hard to improve the apps to try and make it a well-rounded product for core emailing. This January, we even added a Mac app to the mix.
For every email account added to CloudMagic, we incurred recurring server costs and that was something we were prepared to invest in as we built the service from ground up. So even though we dabbled with various payment models, we knew it was wrong to expect users to pay for a backend service that was invisible or for an app that was not feature complete.
Today, we can proudly say that the CloudMagic backend is battle-tested and is one of the the most reliable emailing solutions out there. This makes it the perfect platform to build the power features on top of. Finally, the time has come for us to move to Step 2.
Step 2 — Newton
I’m excited to share with you that as of today, CloudMagic is graduating to be a more mature product and identity — Newton.
Newton supercharges your email with power features like Read Receipts, Snooze, Send Later, Undo Send, Sender Profile, Connected Apps (previously Cards) and more, all with the trademark CloudMagic niceness and reliability.
The best part? It works seamlessly across ALL your email accounts and devices. And this is just the start. There’s loads more in the pipeline (More essential and power features, improvements, Windows App, iOS/Mac Calendar et al) to give you a huge productivity boost and remove the stress out of email.
Free to Paid
Naturally, Newton is not a free product. It comes with a 14-day free trial, during which you can use Newton in its full glory, and if you like the experience, subscribe for $49.99 per year to continue using it.
We’ve arrived at this price after much consideration and believe this will allow us to invest in building a solid product, guaranteeing you with the best experience month after month (and cover recurring server costs). This will also help us sustain as a business and not have the same fate as some of our peers who either went out of business or got sold and shut down. For some time, email solutions were all about jazz with little reliability that only gave more frustration than value to users. We want to change that by offering you a product that just works.
Transition from CloudMagic to Newton
If you’re an existing CloudMagic user, you will notice the change as soon as you update the app. Just start your 14-day free trial and experience supercharged emailing from the get go across iPhone, iPad, Android and Mac (which is now free to download). We urge you to try Newton and then decide for yourself. We are sure you will like what we have built.
If you’ve already paid for the Mac app or Sender Profile, you will automatically get 1 year subscription to Newton absolutely free. It’s there humble token of gratitude to you for supporting us early on.
